Tucked away into a little corner of Athens, Greece is a destination like none other. Called Little Kook, this fairytale-inspired café has been offering a multitude of sweet & savory treats for locals and tourists alike since 2015.
This self proclaimed “Hidden Wonderland of Athens” is certainly just that, as you would never know such a place exists within the hustle and bustle of this ancient city. Featuring various themes throughout the year, Little Kook is known for going all out with its decorations, providing an entirely immersive experience for its customers that I argue even Disney can’t compete with.
During its transformation, Little Kook will be decorated from top to bottom as one of the following themes: Mary Poppins, Snow White, Peter Pan, Circus, Pirates, or Alice in Wonderland. And once the holiday season begins in October, it turns into a hauntingly enchanted Halloweentown before finishing out the year being so decked out in Christmas decorations that Santa Claus himself would be jealous!

Described by visitors as quirky, fun, and whimsical, this little gem of a café was one of the highlights of my own trip to Greece in 2023. I had learned about it from a Greece travel Facebook group, and could tell from people’s photos that I absolutely needed to visit. However, since there was no schedule posted online we did not know what theme would be up during the timeframe we would be in Athens. To my immense delight, it was decorated for Halloween, and not only was the café itself decorated, but the entire alleyway leading up to it as well!
Bewitching background music lended itself to the spooky ambience, and they even completely redid their menu to be on theme as well. We were able to choose from a variety of spooky sweet treats, including cakes, pastries, crepes, coffees, witchy cocktails, and more. Alex ordered a fruit smoothie; while I ordered a latte and decadent pastry to accompany it. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the items being on theme made the experience even more special!

If you are able to visit Little Kook, you will find that families, couples, tourists and locals alike will be there, with the staff being very friendly and helpful. How they accomplish decorating their business in such an amazing, thorough way I will never know, but I DO know that I will be making it a point to stop by here every time I am in Athens!
